Clonakilty Says YES to Stop Circus Suffering!

News from ARAN

Are you ready for some good news for a change? News we all so desperately need? The town of Clonakilty, Co Cork has this week banned animal-act circuses using public land. This is nothing short of FANTASTIC news for the animals suffering inside of circuses.

This hard work would never have being achieved without the broad support of compassionate Councillors who voted to get the motion through which was introduced by Councillor, Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin. The campaign was also hugely successful because of the dedicated and hard work of ARAN campaigners Helen Harrington and Claire Rosewood for helping to lobby, organise and get word out including their hugely successful demonstration and all those who attended in support. Clonakilty has a heart for animals and was named Ireland’s ‘Jungle City’ – so this latest action of kindness comes as no surprise.

Around the country ARAN is working with local Councils to help push for stronger laws to protect animals through legislation such as the above. Clonakilty now joins Drogheda, Waterford, Monaghan and Wicklow Town with others in the pipeline. Circuses can thrive, but it must be without animals. We are no longer living in the Victorian era.

Applause to everyone who supports the ‘Stop Circus Suffering in Ireland’ campaign. Together we can do much more.
